It looks really good and I'm tempted, but not keen on installing an external mic.

Do you know if it can still do Bluetooth calls if the mic isn't plugged in, i.e. so the call still comes over the car speakers but it uses the phone mic instead?

Thanks!
Like you I'm after the same solution without the mic. I've previously used the BlueMusic selection in various formats - on an M44 which had the CD43 and in my E85 connected to the CD adapter behind the bulkhead. My current Z3 has the tape player (think it's C43) so I think I'm going to order this adapter from Germany - it looks identical to the other Bluemusic adapters I've had but specifically states it is compatible with the tape player

Hi @basic_z3 - The unit I use is the one suggested by Dave @137699 - it works 100% and plugs into the cd changer at the back of the radio head unit. You lose cd changer but who needs a cd changer when you have Spotify.

The controls also work for skipping songs, volume etc too.

Best £60 I've spent on mods.
Seller from eBay just replied to me saying it won't work with PH7850 radio so not sure what to think now...

No good asking the “seller” you need to ask the manufacturer. I’ve had eBay sellers tell me things won’t work, won’t fit etc. when they do. They just don’t want to put themselves in a position where you can say “Well you said” etc. etc.

Tony.

I don't seem to be able to find manufacturer website but the spec clearly states it works only with CD 43 radio so unless someone has successfully tested this with PH7850 there is no evidence to assume it could work

You could try asking the seller for the makers info? I would.

Tony.

I didn't realise you had the tape player.

I don't think it will work as I don't belive it has ibus connectivity.

The Bluetooth module connects via pin 7 (ibus) on the cd changer port on the rear which I am not sure your radio has.

This is probably the reason why the cd 43 has become popular and expensive.

I ended up installing a Bluetooth module from Grom Audio that integrates with the stock head unit. It works great, and I didn’t have to sacrifice the OEM look.

the whole radio thing has been a nightmare to me. when I've got the car the oem deck was locked with a code, called the dealer and they couldn't find the code for the deck, replaced it with a cheap deck and there was no sound at all even tho the new deck had power but no sound. then I was told that the amp was busted so I hunted down a used one for like 6 months then I connected it and bum, there was sound coming from the speakers but it was horrible, then I was like well I guess the speakers are bad so I replaced the but there was no change. sound was still so bad.
so now im at the stage where I think the only solution is to replace everything at a cost of 800 bucks that the audio shop wants In order to rewire the car.

Sorry to revive an older thread but did anyone succeed in integrating Bluetooth with the head unit mentioned by the original poster? I also have the business rds ph7850 but can't find a concrete answer as to a plug and play solution.

The only real solution I have found out there after long research is this: BMW Business RDS Bluetooth Service
I haven't tried it due to the price though and I'm still using FM transmitter. I had SONY unit with Bluetooth but the sound quality from the original unit is much better so I swapped back to the original.
