Is it possible to access or remove the shifter from the top of the car without going under and dropping the drive shaft? Or is there a guide on the easiest way to lower the driveshaft to get access to the shifter? Not eager to do that.

above is the kit I want to use

I've heard or seen of one other individual on this forum that seemed to have removed the shifter from the top, but not entirely sure how he did that.

All you need to do is remove the gear lever, which is easy enough. have a look at my article on making a short-shift gear lever - it covers removal and replacement, and is in the 'Articles' section.

Everthing can be accessed from the top, working while seated.

I’ll take a look at that right now! Unfortunately you can’t change the bush bearings for the linkage can you? From the top I mean

Where is the clip?

Where is the clip mentioned in the guide?

also I’m a bit confused as to how you can remove the shifter from the top without undoing where it connects to the linkage, or is that something that needs be done from underneath?

In short the answer is no.

You'll need to remove the exhaust and prop shaft for good access. Some people have done it with the prop in position but its fiddley.
