just asking because I drove a 1998 the other day and a 2002 today and the 2002 felt much better. Is it just me?

As in your other post. It could be the seat type. I am lucky enough to have two. A 1999 2.8 pre and 2001 3.0 post facelift, both fit about the same.

Take a tape measure in your pocket and measure the height of the seat.

thanks Tony... Where do you recommend measure to/from.... Probably the seat to the floor?... And the seat to the roof?

That would make good sense to me, then you can compare. Also sport seat compared to standard seats maybe?

Tony.

I personally found more headroom with the pre facelift seats, got worse with M seats my hair was brushing on the head liner.

I'm 6ft and both cars have sports seats with no issues at all.
Depending where you are based, you're welcome to try mine or I'm sure any local members would help out...

I'm 6ft. 1999 z3 with standard seats. If I sit up straight with my back against the back of the seat the rear view mirror is slightly below my eye level basically blocking my view out that area of the screen.

I tend to slide down the seat so the small of my back is away from the back of the seat and I can, just about, see under the rear view mirror and I don't feel like the top of my head is swatting flies.

But, at my age, I'm not sure I'd like to keep that driving position for a few hours.

It sounds like standard seats have a higher seat height. In my sports seats the dash gauges are perfectly aligned through the steering wheel and rear view mirror causes no problems and plenty of headroom with the roof up. No funny seating positions to make it work and pushing 60 I'm no spring chicken either!

Grumps used to have that same problem. Then he fitted a set of my seat lifters, both problems solved for £15.

Seat "Lifters"? Wouldn't "Lifting" the seat make it worse?
No, it doesn't because it just raises the front of the seat. This alters the angle of your knees and hips .

My seat has motor fore and aft as well as front up/down. I assume your lifter lifts it even more. I suppose I could test that theory by, temporarily, putting a wedge under the front of the rail and seeing how it feels. As it is though I don't think I have my seat adjusted fully up at the front anyway.

I’m only going on feedback from people who have fitted them. In almost all cases tall drivers who said it works well contrary to expectations. The first set I fitted for someone else made it possible for him to drive the car for longer without back pain afterwards. On standard seats I found that it stops you sliding off the front of the seat.

I'm short but have seat lifters fitted to the front. It's much more comfortable as you don't sit as flat. Infact I find the seats and position in my zed more comfortable than any other car I've driven over a long distance. I find myself wriggling around after an hour or so In any other car, but not the zed. The front seat lifter was one of the best mods I've actually done along with the steering wheel refurb regarding the driving experience.
