Evening,

I have recently swapped the 2.2 engine from my Z3 to the 3.0. I'm Currently using the 250G box from the 2.2, which appears to be holding up so far - however I'm unsure on the longevity of it with the increased torque from the 3.0.

I was wondering if anyone would know what would be required to swap the box over to a 320G, Im assuming the propshaft and gear linkages may not fit?
In terms of clutch options, I have seen quite a few single mass flywheel conversions on the likes of ebay - are they worth considering?

Many thanks.

By 320G do you mean the ZF box found with the 3.0?

If you grab the front section of the prop shaft and linkage its another straight swap. Clutch wise I ran a solid fly for a while and she was sound. Anything M52/M54 will fit.

Cheers Lee, sorry - typo, I did meant 320Z.

Good stuff, thanks. Guessing it's a 10 spline box, so if I go solid flywheels on the 250g it should also fit the 320Z?

Cheers Lee - I've ordered one of these, plan on swapping over this week.

When I had the box off during the engine swap, I purchased a new Valeo clutch kit as the clutch I took off was original to the car.
Its horrific, the friction disc was much smaller in width than the original LUK and just didn't look right, I fitted it anyway and the chatter when its just engaging is unbearable. May well be the DMF on its last legs too, although it didn't seem too bad.

Hopefully the solid kit sorts things out.

You can happily use either gearbox with the swap. The ZF is a more heavy duty box and if you do get one replace the shift pins so it’s like new. The Getrag from the 2.2 you can’t overhaul.

Look forward to hearing how the new clutch feels.

Thanks for the advice Lee, solid flywheel conversion has done the job, silky smooth.

Went on a quick 15 mile spin on the way back, gearbox doesn't seem to be making any complaints (touch wood).

I did change the box oil when I bought the car, may treat it to the likes of Redline or something decent to try and keep it as happy as possible.

GSF took the Valeo kit back too - thought I may have been pushing my luck since it was fitted, but think they took pity on me when I said I drove 5 miles on it and took the gearbox off again.

Difference between the Valeo and solid conversion was about £50 - that will teach me for being a cheapskate.

Hi Alex

Do you know if the flywheel is any lighter than the stock DMF?

I assume it is close to the same weight but if it is slightly lighter then I may go for that over spending approx £1k on a TTV lightweight flywheel and M5 clutch kit.

Hi James, I didn't weigh them, just did a quick pickup of both for comparison at the time of fitting - I didn't really notice any difference.

I'll weigh the original LUK flywheel this evening and get back to you.

The solid conversion kit seems good up to now, saw a good few miles of spirited driving around Wales last night without issues.
