When I fitted the new relays the other week I noticed the battery looked like the original BMW fitment from 2012. However, I'd not had any issues and the roof had been operating from the key without issue.

However last week I had the stop start warning light come on (even though i always have it turned off) and I also had one instance of the theft alarm going off.

So I took the battery to be load tested and the results confirmed it was only producing 260A compared to the original 760A.

I ordered a replacement from Tayna which turned out to be exactly the same size so fitment was straightforward and I was suprised how clean the battery compartment was with zero signs of any water ingress - so just a quick hoover and registered using the Creator 310+. Job done

The car is coming up on 80k and the steering wheel has adopted the usual shiny finish.

Had a look on YouTube for renovation ideas and came across one that utilises my favourite soap manufacturer.

So having opened a new bar this week I thought I'd give it a go.

The results were certainly an improvement with the matt finish returning but it still feels a bit to slippy to the touch for my liking - will have to see if there are any other suggestions. Sure I've seen one before involving sandpaper.

Scotch brite magic eraser soaked in water and very gentle moves will bring it back to tiptop condition.

Collected the car from its MOT & Service appointment this afternoon.

Appreciate most of my Zed's haven’t made it this far but it's always nice to get an advisory free MOT result

I've set myself the goal of keeping this one until I've at least experienced it with the stage 1 remap. It seems like a fairly common mod for the N20 and most owners report significant gains and improved performance.

I obviously advised my mechanic of the intended remap so from a service perspective he completed the standard oil change and replaced the oil, air & cabin filters. But he also replaced the spark plugs and had a good look at the timing chain. From a preventative maintenance perspective he swapped out the existing timing chain tensioner bolt for the latest OEM one from Sytner - apparently this version is the 3rd iteration.

Finally what I thought was a result of the failing original battery turned out to be an issue with the brake vacuum servo sensor. So a new sensor got rid of the warning light that had reappeared after fitting the new battery.

Now I just need to find a suitable company to carry out the remap :coolsteer)

There are 3 variants of the 2 litre N20 engine, the 18i, 20i and the 28i. Mine's the middle one, but I find it peppy enough that I sometimes wonder if its been remapped before I got my hands on it. Be interesting to see your views on any noticeable changes Garrie.

Must admit I'm also quite content with mine especially the low down torque it provides compared to the previous 23i & 30i variants I've owned.

But having previously owned the Z4MR & Z4MC and a few 3.0si's I'm just keen to see how it compares after the remap. That and the fact nobody seems to have a bad word to say about it once they've had it done I just can't resist ;)
