This was up for sale on Autotrader via Prestige Lux Motors - looked like a lovely low mileage example with auto box, wood trim, xenon lights and top HiFi option. Not surprisingly the advert has been taken down.

I'd take the Z4 in lieu of them leaving insurance details

(Incidentally, the last letter is unclear but if the reg pictured is RE03 ZKK then according to the DVLA it's on an X5 )

Pardon my ignorance, but doesn't the insurance company cover damages at any case or you have an extra coverage for this?

They would, but your premiums would go up 😤 Almost certainly cost you more in the long run than replacing a couple of light units

RE03 ZKM by the looks of it. Usual issues in MOT history but had a clean pass in April. 72k miles on it then apparently.

In my experience when you re-insure your insurer will ask if you had any accidents in the last n years. The question doesn't ask or care who's fault it was. If you answer honestly it'll still increase premium.

Hm! Very interesting.
Just for having a conversation, fyi, In my place, there is a point system from 0 to 20.

When the fault is yours you will be charged extra at your next contract depending on the points. (Ex five accidents you were responsible and money paid to third parties will bring you to 20 and it's better to give up driving, insurance will be outrageous).

If somebody else is to blame, you get no points and no premium.

Every driver starts at 10 and depending on accidents he climbs to 20 or if he has no accidents decends to 0.

I think this is more fair...

Here in the UK we call that "No Claims Discount". The longer you drive the more discount you get. That makes it sound like a young driver would pay 100% and an experienced driver might have 50% discount. But it's not like that at all. They charge young drivers 10 times more than an experienced driver. They also charge more or less for your occupation. DJs, apparently, pay more than most. Then the area you live in - they have access to the crime statistics in that area and you'd pay more if more cars get stolen or vandalised in that area.

Just out of interest go to gocompare and enter a made up name, any uk postcode, key in a car make model and fiddle about with the questionnaire. You can save a packet just by changing your job title.

Insurance and points in the UK is a farce that needs Governmanet review. Here you need a seperate policy for each car. Each policy builds up No Claims Discount (NCD) every year so if you have had no accidents for 5 years, you have 5 years NCD which means you get a discount - discount goes up with the number of years NCD. so if you have 1 car for 20 years and then buy a Z as a 2nd car you have 20 years NCD on 1 and 0 on the 2nd - you cannot transfer them.

However, if you have an accident in 1 of the cars you have to tell both insurances so both go up !!

In the case of points on your licenses (for speeding for example) then thats fair enough - that is on YOU and you should have to declare them on all insurances - although thats also a farce as points last for 3 years on your license but you have to declare them for 5 years to insurance companies.
