Well. Not really a quiz. There's just one question.

The tyre on the right is a 225/55 x 16

What size is the one on fhe left?

There's no trick. They're side by side the same distance from the camera. Both tyres are fitted on the same bmw style 35 wheels.

Yes, different manufacturers, one top brand and one budget.

The one on the left is 205/55 (Avon)
The one on the right is 225/55 (budget)

Why is the one on fhe left fatter. It really is. It's not an optical wotsit.

I always assumed that the width was the actual width. Why should a 205 Avon be wider than a budget 225

Looks like it's the way the tyres sit due to their manufacturing. The one on the right sits with much more of a curve than the left; that one sits very 'flat'. So if you measure across including the curve they will be the same. Or it could just be Chinese quality control. They do have a bit of a 'near enough is good enough' attitude to most things.

I have just put 205/65 Good Year all seasons on my car. They look really skinny because the tyres have a big curve, so the tread and contact patch look tiny. With the weight of the car, they 'squash' (only at the bottom oddly) and look OK. Just down to the different 'types' of tyres and how they are made IMO.

Try measuring a wheel diameter from outside lip to outside lip. They are much more than the size stated, cos the size isn't taken from there.

I'm not comparing two types of 205 tyres. The one on the right is a 225. So supposed to be 20mm bigger than the left one. But it fact it's over 10mm narrower. So yeah, much cheapness.
